Attorney Alfredo Torrijos

Alfredo Torrijos brings a rare combination of technical sophistication, corporate strategy, and aggressive litigation experience to Haffner Law. Serving clients from the firm’s locations in Los Angeles and throughout California, he represents individuals, employees, and small businesses against some of the largest corporations in the world.
Unlike many attorneys who have only ever worked in law firms, Alfredo began his career in the corporate and financial sectors. This background gives him a unique “insider” perspective on how defendants operate, allowing him to anticipate their tactics and dismantle their defenses.
“I prepare every case as if it is definitely going to trial. My job is to handle the legal war so you can focus on your recovery.”
The “Insider” Advantage
Before attending Stanford Law School, Alfredo worked as a staff accountant and systems developer for Litton Industries and later as a Management Consultant for The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). At BCG, he advised massive companies in the pharmaceutical, telecommunications, and utility sectors.
He saw firsthand how these corporations evaluate risk, manage costs, and make decisions. Today, he uses that knowledge to litigate against them.
Alfredo is also technically fluent in SQL, C++, and C#. In modern litigation, where evidence is often buried in massive databases and complex electronic records, Alfredo does not just review the documents, he understands the systems behind them. This technical fluency is a critical asset in complex class actions and commercial litigation.
Litigation & Trial Experience
Alfredo focuses on complex litigation matters, including catastrophic injury, sexual assault, employment disputes, consumer fraud, and bad faith insurance claims.
His track record includes one of the most significant settlements in U.S. history. In 2021, Alfredo was named a CAOC Trial Lawyer of the Year for his role in representing plaintiffs in the University of Southern California (USC) / Dr. George Tyndall litigation. The case was resolved for a historic $852 million settlement– the largest known settlement in a sexual abuse case and the largest personal injury settlement against a university in U.S. history.
Alfredo has successfully represented consumers in class actions against major technology and insurance entities, including Google, Yahoo!, CitySearch, Nationwide Insurance, Progressive, and State Farm.
Appellate Experience
Alfredo maintains a robust appellate practice, having written and argued dozens of briefs that have shaped California law. Several of his cases have resulted in published opinions that improved protections for consumers and employees, including:
- Cordova v. 21st Century Ins. Co.
- Johnson v. GlaxoSmithKline, Inc.
- Hughes v. Progressive Direct Insurance Company
- Safeway, Inc. v. Superior Court of Los Angeles
The Person Behind the Professional
Alfredo is the son of Cuban immigrants who left everything behind to start over in the United States. His parents’ resilience and insistence on fairness shaped his view of the law: it exists to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
He lives in Granada Hills with his wife and two children. Their home is a multicultural hub where English, Spanish, and Farsi are spoken daily. Alfredo is fully fluent in Spanish. He takes pride in speaking directly with his Spanish-speaking clients, ensuring they understand every step of the legal process without the barrier of an interpreter.
Outside of the courtroom, Alfredo can usually be found outdoors at O’Melveny Park or in his garden. He has a passion for gardening that has turned into a family tradition: growing giant pumpkins and watermelons.
